1.They aren’t winners every time, but they have the chance to win every time if they practice and do their best.

2.They must be respectful of the referees and all coaches.

3.They must encourage others, and any statements to teammates must be constructive in word and tone.

4.They must take responsibility for their actions without excuses.

5.They should show appreciation for the good effort of others even if they are opposing players.

6.They should exhibit good sportsmanship at all times.

Taking an active role in your child’s sports gives you a perfect classroom to teach life lessons. You are in a positive, fun environment. Touchy, feely child psychologists will tell you it’s important to make every child feel like a winner and that by never losing children will grow up feeling empowered and self-confident. It’s a great theory, but it doesn’t work that way in reality. Losing at something early in life is a wonderful lesson. Your children learn how to face failure and bounce right back. They realize that it’s not the end of the world but simply a natural event. At some point everyone loses at something, and the earlier your child learns how to do it and keep right on trying, the better prepared he will be to lead a happy life.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
